Nicholas joined Scouting, as a Tiger
Cub, with Pack 855 in Mesquite, Texas. He earned the Bobcat,
Wolf, Bear and Webelos ranks, and the Arrow of Light Award. He
then chose Troop 67 as his Boy Scout home.
Since joining the Troop he has served
as a Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Quartermaster,
Historian, Troop Guide, Order of the Arrow Representative and
Senior Patrol Leader. Nicholas has attended leadership training,
which includes: Troop Junior Leadership Training, Oak Leaf
Skills, Golden Acorn and National Junior Leader Instructor Camp
at Philmont Training Center. He has also served as training
staff at Oak Leaf Skills and Golden Acorn. Nicholas has staffed
Cub Twilight Camp for four years. He is certified in Red Cross
CPR & First Aid.
Nicholas has attended five summer
camps: one at Camp Cherokee in Athens, Texas, and four at Hale
Scout Reservation in Oklahoma; four winter camps: three at Camp
Cherokee and a Cavalry adventure at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.
Nicholas participated in a 94 mile
backpacking trip in the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont
Scout Ranch and has earned 38 merit badges so far. Up to this
point in Nicholas’ scouting career, he has over 300 service
hours with the troop and over 120 nights camping. He has earned
special awards, which include the Mile Swim, BSA Scuba, and the
Duty to God Award as the Chaplain on the Philmont trek.
Nicholas was elected by his peers into
the Order of the Arrow, and is an active member of this scouting
service organization. He will soon receive his Brotherhood
membership in the Ogequah Chapter of the Mikanakawa Lodge.
For his Eagle Service project, Nicholas
organized a food and clothing drive for Sharing Life Community
Outreach and delivered a 16’ trailer full of donations to be
used for needy families in the community. Along with 42
volunteers, over 300 service hours were put into this project.
Nicholas achieved the rank of Eagle
Scout on June 13, 2005. This is not the end of his scouting
career, only a new beginning; he will continue to earn merit
badges and work toward Eagle Palms. Nicholas plans to remain
active in the Troop, Venture Crew, OA Lodge and any other
opportunity that comes along!
Troop 67 is very proud of Nicholas' achievements -
Congratulations, Nicholas!
